Family Heritage Languages Inc. is a not-for-profit charity association delivering support and education for cross-cultural families to uphold their heritage language and pass this unique gift onto their children.
Vision: Our vision is for a world that supports linguistically diverse families to access and sustain their heritage language.
Mission: Our mission is to co-create unique and creative language learning projects through collaboration with linguistically diverse families.
All children have unique identities, and those with one or both parents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds have a chance to keep the door to their unique cultural heritage open by speaking their family languages. When a dominant language like English is also spoken, families can find it difficult to maintain their heritage language and it becomes at risk.
The term “heritage language” is used to identify languages other than the dominant language (or languages) in a given social context. (Kelleher, 2010)
